On Sunday at Wondercon, I had the pleasure to attend a panel about Kendare Blake. Although, I own a copy of Two Dark Reigns, I haven’t read any of her work.
She was informative, and surprisingly, very witty. I enjoyed listening to her answer questions from the audience and share a bit about her background.
I asked her two questions.
The first, does being a woman of color and minority add pressure to her work? She doesn’t feel pressure to write because it would not be authentic because her background wasn’t in an Asian American family. She grew up in Minnesota and was adopted into a white family.
What is she reading?
Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman’s Aurora Rising
Megan Shepard’s Middle Grade novel. She loves Grim Lovelies and is awaiting Midnight Beauties.
The talk was amazing and I got to meet her again to have a few books signed.
